Squid in the Foyer is a ‘surrealist’ play interested in how - during climate crises in the Anthropocene - we are talking ourselves to death. Set in a generic skyscraper, eight mid-level bureaucratic employees spend their time talking about absolutely nothing while the ‘real world’ (whatever that might mean) rages on outside their window. A giant squid arrives in the foyer and gradually the employees begin to talk to one another, although they’re not too bothered. Business as usual can go on just fine, even if they are trapped by the presence of a massive cephalopod. What really sets off alarm bells for the employees, however, is the aircon breaking. You know things are bad when a squid traps you at work and you might overheat to death.
